This Fund provides resources for local registered wildlife carers to care for our injured or sick local wildlife.
Carers are happy to devote their time and expertise, but the costs of special food, medicines and veterinary care can be prohibitive. So the Progress Association set up the Fund and maintains it’s cash assets and approves expenditure and reimbursement.
We live in an area where wildlife and humans are in close proximity, and that is not always good for the wildlife. Cars, dogs and cats are often the cause of injuries or death and occasionally, we see vandalism by humans with guns, arrows and sticks. Even feeding wildlife with human food such as bread causes considerable harm.
Resources needed for wildlife rescue
Wildlife rescue takes skill as well as time and money. For their own safety and the safety of the fauna they rescue, carers must be properly trained and registered.
Specialist food that must be bought includes
- Insectivore mix and other specialist bird foods
- Frozen Mice, Crickets and Mealworms
- Meat
- Milk formulas
Other resources needed include
- Towels
- Baby bags
- Bandages
- Feeding bottles and other feeding paraphernalia
- Heat pads
- Aviaries and carry cages
The local carers who are supported by the Bouddi Wildlife Fund rescue and rehabilitate animals in our local area. They take cases from National Park-approved organisations such as Wildlife Arc and from local residents.
At times, veterinary attention may be needed for diagnosis and treatment of wounds, broken limbs and on occasion special medication or even euthanasia will unfortunately be necessary.
